Thanksgiving Day celebrations begin at Grandma's house before the sun is even up, when the turkey goes into the oven. The doorbell rings throughout the day as different extended family members arrive and pitch in to help with the preparations. The potatoes have to be peeled, the dough has to be rolled out, the furniture needs to be moved, and the table and chairs need to be set up.
Then, the dinner bell!
And everyone gathers at the table, babies and dogs included. The food is passed, thanks is given, napkins are unfolded, and then everyone digs in!
Afterward, everyone pitches in and helps with clean up, goes for a walk, and comes back for dessert and music. The day finally ends with everyone getting into coats and saying good-bye til the next time, followed by the grandparents' happy exhaustion. Kick off your shoes and join in! But what was Grandma knitting the whole time?
Thanksgiving is a special time with family and this book celebrates that fact for the youngest listeners! Ms Goode's jaunty illustrations are so much fun to search and enjoy. Her exuberance for family and the rituals of togetherness spills over from the text to the pictures. The text is minimal, but the illustrations will keep little eyes busy time after time, noticing new and humorous episodes and expressions.
